Awesome Gospel Music: Amos Lee - Jesus - Transatlantic Sessions

Amos Lee and Friends - Transatlantic Sessions - YouTube Video Screen Capture
Amos Lee and Friends - Transatlantic Sessions - YouTube Video Screen Capture
Hi!

I just stumbled across (or was it Something else) a live video of Amos Lee singing "Jesus" from the Transatlantic Sessions series.

He is joined on stage by others including Texan Sarah Jarosz, an amazing young singer/musician  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Jarosz), Scottish singer Kathleen Macinnes and Irish singer/songwriter Decaln O'Rourke.

Amos Lee has been singing Christian themed songs since his self title debut in 2005....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amos_Lee_(album)...

...although it would seem that after going through many tribulations in this life his lyrics have become more overtly Christian through the years.

On this track, "Jesus", there is no mistaking his intent.  (see the lyrics below)

Anywho...do yourself a favor and check out the video...and be Blessed!

"Jesus" - Lyrics

Oh, Jesus can you help me now,
(Jesus can you help me now)
Oh, Jesus can you help me now,
(Jesus can you help me now)
Oh, Jesus can you help me now,
No, I never felt so alone,

I remember when I was wild and free,
Oh, so wild and free,
Oh, so wild and free,
But my heart was a skipping stone,

But now the world has jaded me,
(Jaded me)
Oh, corrupted and defeated me,
(Defeated me)
You know I never thought you hated me,
But I’ve never felt so alone,

Oh, Jesus will you help me now,
(Jesus can you help me now)
Oh, Jesus will you help me now,
(Jesus will you help me now)
Oh Jesus will you help me now,
No, I never felt so alone,
So alone,
So alone

Instrumental break

Oh, Jesus will you help me now,
(Jesus can you help me now)
Oh, Jesus will you help me now,
(Jesus will you help me now)
Oh Jesus will you help me now,
No, I never felt so alone,
So alone,
So alone.................

13 As for me, Lord, this is my prayer to you:
    Please accept me!
God, I want you to answer me with love.
I know I can trust you to save me.

14 Pull me from the mud,
and don’t let me sink down deeper.
Save me from those who hate me.
Save me from this deep water.

15 Don’t let the waves drown me.
Don’t let the deep sea swallow me
or the grave close its mouth on me.

16 Answer me, Lord, from the goodness of your faithful love.
Out of your great kindness turn to me and help me!

Messianic Christian Music: Ted Pearce - Bless The Name Yeshua (Jesus)

"In English, the name Yeshua is extensively used by followers of Messianic Judaism" as a name for Jesus Christ the Messiah.

Hello!

Recently I came across this beautiful song, Bless The Name Of Yeshu, by Ted Pearce.

According to his website, http://www.tedpearce.com:

"Ted Pearce grew up in a Vidor, TX, a city known for racism in the 60s & 70s. There he began his professional career as a singer at the age of 15, and at the same age became an atheist.

But in summer of 1989, Ted the atheist began reading the bible to prove it was wrong, and everything was about to change...

In January of 1990 he made a decision to trust in Yeshua (Jesus) and began attending a messianic Jewish congregation.

In the late 90s, he formed and recorded with two Christian rock bands."

His website says that he has been active in Messianic Christian music through the years following that...and has also collaborated with Joel Chernoff from the messianic Christian music pioneer group "Lamb", and co-wrote the theme song for the new ministry of Promise Keepers founder, Coach Bill McCartney.

-------------------------

Check out the video of Ted Pearce and Bless The Name Of Yeshua...and let it minister to you!

(Lyrics below)

53 Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
3 He is despised and rejected by men,A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

4 Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment,
And who will declare His generation?
For He was cut off from the land of the living;
For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
9 And they[a] made His grave with the wicked—
But with the rich at His death,
Because He had done no violence,
Nor was any deceit in His mouth.

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him;
He has put Him to grief.
When You make His soul an offering for sin,
He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days,
And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.
11 He shall see the labor of His soul,[b] and be satisfied.
By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many,
For He shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
And He shall divide the spoil with the strong,
Because He poured out His soul unto death,
And He was numbered with the transgressors,
And He bore the sin of many,
And made intercession for the transgressors.

Bless The Name Yeshua - Ted Pearce - Lyrics

We worship you, O Lord,
For You alone are worthy,
To receive all honor and praise,
You are highly exalted,
Lord God Almighty,
Sing out, O heaven and earth,

Chorus:

Hallelujah, Bless the name Yeshua,
For He is the name above all names,
Hallelujah, Bless the name Yeshua,
Messiah gave His life in my place,

We thank you, O Father,
For sending Your Son,
Who gave Himself a ransom for our sin,

Perfect atonement,
A spotless peace offering,
You have given us a way to You through Him,

(Chorus)

Baruch Atah,

O, Zion awaits,
The day of Your returning,
Come to us Immanuel!

(Chorus)

Gospel Music: Linda Gibson Johnson - "Buy Me Gold"

Video and lyrics below

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Revelation 3:18-22
18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
21 To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

Buy Me Gold - Lyrics

Verse 1:
John was on the isle of Patmos,
He was talking with the Son of Man.
The Lord said, "John, go and write it down",
So he did with his own hand,

Then the Lord said, "Tell 'em,
Go and tell 'em just what I say,
They'd better be ready to meet me,
When they stand at the judgment day",

Chorus:
He said, "Buy me gold, tried in the fire,
Melt it down, turn the flames a little bit higher,
Don't give me no gold, Oh, that ain't been purified,
Honey, it just ain't good enough, if it ain't been tried",

Verse 2:
People talk about old time religion,
While livin' in a modern way,
They like to reminisce about the saints of old,
How it was back in the day.

They've got all of those stories,
Gathered up in their minds,
Don't they know the Lord's still looking,
For a gold of just that kind,

(Chorus)

Verse 3:
Now you tell me all about your troubles,
Things you been a'going through,
You say you just can't make it,
Well, I'll say a little prayer for you,

You ain't seen nothing like it,
And you've almost lost your mind,
Don't you know its gotta get hotter,
If your ever gonna be refined,

(Chorus)

Christian Music Video: Amy Grant - El Shaddai

The video and lyrics are found below

(footnotes *)

---------------------------------------------

Amy Grant - El Shaddai

In 1981, when Amy Grant was still in her early 20's, she released an album called Age To Age that had a number of excellent songs on it....but one song seemed to stand out and resonate with many people.

Her beautiful version of the song El Shaddai, was written by Michael Card and John Thompson, and incorporated direct quotes from scripture in the original Hebrew language.

Hebrew Translations

Public Domain Photo:  Christ the Redeemer Statue
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

"El Shaddai is most often translated as "God Almighty (אל שׁדי)"...and about half the lyrics in the chorus are also in Hebrew.

El-Elyon na Adonai is a combination of two names for God, meaning "God Most High (אלעליון), O Lord (אדני)" (na (נא) translated by some as an earnest or humble request.
Erkamka na Adonai is taken from Psalm 18:1 (except for the "na," which is added) and is normally translated "I love you (ארחמך), O Lord."

The Songs Popularity

"The song was a hit single for Grant, reaching the top of the Billboard Christian chart. It won 'Song of the Year' and Michael Card won 'Songwriter of the Year' at the 1983 GMA Dove Awards.

In 2001, it was also named one of the 'Songs of the Century" by the The Recording Industry Association of America.
This version of Grant's El Shaddai is primarily performed on piano, with harp and string accompaniment. Drums do not appear in it until the climactic third chorus."

-------------------------------------

Most importantly, at the time it was released the Christian recording industry seemed less of a business and more of a ministry...and this worshipful song held a deep meaning and spoke to many people...and its gentle testimony to Jesus as Lord was unmistakable.

Though it has been many years since its release, it's still speaking to many people...and whether it is familiar to you...or new to your ears...may its truth find its way to your heart today.

El Shaddai - Lyrics and Meanings
Chorus:

El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai,
(meaning "God Almighty, God Almighty")
El-Elyon na Adonai,
(meaning "God in the highest, Oh, Lord")
Age to age, You're still the same,
By the power of the name,
El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai,
Erkamka na Adonai,
(meaning "We will love You, Oh, Lord")
We will praise and lift You high,
El-Shaddai,

Through Your love
And through the ram,
You saved the son
Of Abraham,
Through the power
Of Your hand,
Turned the sea
Into dry land,
To the outcast
On her knees,
You were the God
Who really sees.
And by Your might,
You set Your children free,

Chorus

Through the years,
You made it clear,
That the time of Christ
Was near,
Though the people
Couldn't see,
What Messiah ought to be,
Though Your Word
Contained the plan,
They just could not understand,
Your most awesome work was done,
Though the frailty of Your son,

Chorus

    Tell me, if you understand.
5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
Who stretched a measuring line across it?
6 On what were its footings set,

Live Video - Gospel Singer Willie Banks Sings Lord I Know You Been So Good

Image:  Christ healing the paralytic
at Bethesda, Palma il Giovane, 1592
Public Domain

In Praise of God's Goodness
I will always thank the Lord;
I will never stop praising him.
2 I will praise him for what he has done;
may all who are oppressed listen and be glad!
3 Proclaim with me the Lord's greatness;
let us praise his name together!

4 I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me;
he freed me from all my fears.
5 The oppressed look to him and are glad;
they will never be disappointed.
6 The helpless call to him, and he answers;
he saves them from all their troubles.
-------------------------------

Hello!

Part of the reason I made this blog is that I truly enjoy what I post here...and while I love to know others do as well...it also makes it easy for me to keep track of artists and songs, and scripture etc, that speak to my heart and lift and encourage me.

---------------------------

Last September I created a post for a video of The Soul Stirrers singing Lord, Remember Me...and have enjoyed watching the video over and over again.

At the end, YouTube offers suggestions of similar songs and just by chance I clicked on a live video of Willie Banks performing Lord I Know You Been So Good, and was letting it play while I worked on other things.

There is a slow build up where Willie and his band (the Messengers) vamp about God's Hand in their lives.  And then at about three minutes and fifteen seconds in they jump into the song.

If you love this kind of music, as I do, it's a strong pay-off and you can feel it lift your spirit immediately.  It definitely made me stop what I was doing!  :)

(Of course if you want to zip ahead to that point...I'm sure it'll make you feel just as good)

----------------------------

A bit of information abut Willie's career and lyrics to the song are below the video.

Hope Willie and the Messenger's music Blesses you!

"Willie Banks developed his unique bluesy sound during his over 30 years career as Gospel Singer, and Entertainer.

Early on, he
recorded gospel songs such as "God's Goodness," and "Mother Why", on Hoyt Sullivan Enterprises (HSE) Records
He later signed to Malaco Records, where he recorded a remake of "God's Goodness," and several other hits, like "Things I Can't Change," "God Is Still In Charge," "Too Late," and more.
At the time of his death from heart failure in 1993, he was recording and performing with The Messengers.
Willie was a man of distinction and many think of him along with other gospel greats like Rev. James Cleveland, Clara Ward, Mahalia Jackson, Thomas Dorsey, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Casietta George (of the Caravans), Dorothy Love Coates, and countless others."

All Gospel Lyrics:  Lord You've Been Good To Me
Thank you Lord,
Oh, Thank you Lord,
I want to thank you Jesus,

Lord, I know you been so good,
Lord, I know you been so good,
Over me all night long,
Lord, I know you been so good.

Let's sing it again, y'all,

Lord, I know you been so good,
Lord, I know you been so good,
Over me all night long,
Lord, I know you been so good.

Verse 1

Jesus I been wrong in my life and sometimes I've even sinned,
But Lord I thank you for shaking me this morning,
And letting me kneel down and pray again,

I could've been dead sleeping in my grave,
You made old death go away this morning and made it behave,

And God you been good,

You been good,
You been good,
You've been so good to me
Lord I know you spared my life,
Lord I know you spared my life,
I could've been dead sleeping in my grave,

Verse 2
Jesus you've been my mother and Lord you've been my father too,
Out of all of the troubles and trials I had in my life,
Without you Lord I don't know what I'd do,

That's why I got my hand in the winding chain,
Oh every day of my life I'm trusting in your name,

And God you been good , Thank you Lord,

Jesus, you been good,

You been good,
You been good,
I know you been so good to meh

Alison Krauss - A Living Prayer - Live

Deuteronomy 31:8

8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

--------------------------

A live performance from Alison Krauss
And Union Station on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno:

"A Living Prayer"

Albrecht Dürer Betende Hände
Public Domain Image

In this world I walk alone
With no place to call my home,
But there's one who holds my hand
Through rugged roads, through barren lands.

The way is dark, the road is steep,
But He's become my eyes to see,
The strength to climb, my griefs to bear.
The Savior lives inside me there.

In Your love I find relief,
A haven from my unbelief.
Take my life and let me be
A living prayer, my God, to Thee.

In these trials of life I find
Another voice inside my mind.
He comforts me and bids me live
Inside the love the Father gives.

In Your love I find relief,
A haven from my unbelief.
Take my life and let me be
A living prayer, my God, to Thee.

Take my life and let me be
A living prayer, my God, to Thee.

Hi!

Last fall I published a blog post (10-16-13) about Linda Gibson Johnson and her music ministry.

That blog entry included her song "I Got Saved In The Old Time Way" from her Tear Off The Roof CD.

At the time of that post, I'd been able to find little information about her on-line, but did find an address from a bebo.com entry about her, which included an address for her ministry:

"Where There's Smoke..." Music Ministries
P.O. Box 3029 Sizerock
Kentucky 41762

Pastor Eli Sanders, at a Pentecostal Church, 1946
Pastor Eli Sanders "testifies" in 1946 (Public Domain)

More recently, I finally sent off a snail-mail letter to that address asking for info about CD's etc and included the web-address for my 10-16-13 post about her, and my e-mail address.

Yesterday I was delighted to find an e-mail from her.

She is indeed very much still alive and ministering!

She wrote that, now and then, she travels and ministers in the same circles as Sharon Brock, in Kentucky and Ohio.

(please refer to my 10-30-13 post about Sister Brock)

Sister Johnson's e-mail indicated that she has three CD's:

Fire, Tear Off the Roof and It Still Takes Old-Time Religion.

  • (Note:  At this time (4-5-14) her first two CD's are on re-order)

Her CD's are available by writing her at the address above and including a check or money order for $12.00.

And if you're able to, I encourage you to include a donation for her ministry as well!

Here's Linda Gibson Johnson and "I Call Him My Everything" from her Tear Off The Roof CD (lyrics below):

I Call Him My Everything - Lyrics

Pharisees called Him a devil,
'Cause He brushed their doctrines aside,
Soldiers called Him the king of the Jews,
And mocked Him as He hung and died,

Pilate called Him an innocent man,
Tried to wash blood off his hands,
The crowd called aloud that day,
Saying crucify that man,

But I call Him Father, Friend,
The Beginning and the End,

I call Him my Constant Companion,
He's been there through the thick and thin,

I call Him when there ain't nobody,
When it's just me and Him,

And I call Him my everything,

Folks 'round about that village,
Called Him a carpenter's son,
Mary called Him her baby boy,
Every evening when the day was done,

The blind man called Him, "Son Of David,
Please have mercy on me",
He made the lame to walk and the dumb to talk,
And He made that blind man see,

(Chorus)

Now, I called Him at an old time altar,
When I fell down on my knees,
And I called Him in the good times,
And the bad times in between,

I called Him to heal my body,
And I called Him to ease my mind,
I called Him in the midnight hour,
And He showed up right on time,

Beautiful Music Video: The Mission / How Great Thou Art - The Piano Guys

Psalm 145:1-7

A psalm of praise. Of David.
1 I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever.
2 Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.
3 Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
4 One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
5 They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
6 They tell of the power of your awesome works—
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
7 They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

Hello,

I just stumbled on a very beautiful video published on YouTube on Apr 2, 2014 and created by The Piano Guys: http://thepianoguys.com/.

The group consists of Steven Sharp Nelson on Cellos and Jon Schmidt on piano, and they state their goals on their website:

"Our vision is to create music and videos that inspire & uplift.

Whatever we do, we put our heart and souls into every note and frame."

Performing sold out shows all over the world they've set out to create video/performances at the Seven Wonders Of The World (WOTW)...and so far have finished two of them.

- Great Wall In China http://youtu.be/NCaH-qqTWpk (1 of 7)
- Chichen Itza, Mexico
- Machu Picchu, Peru
- Petra, Jordan
- The Roman Colosseum, Italy
- The Taj Mahal, India

And lastly the subject of this blog post:  Their video shot at one WOTW, The Christ the Redeemer Statue in Brazil, and the nearby the Iguazu Falls, and featuring instrumental music from the movie The Mission, and the hymn "How Great Thou Art".

The Piano Guys' YouTube video description may tell it best:

"As our tour of Brazil approached we set our sights on our next Wonder: Christ the Redeemer. This incredible piece of art soars 10 stories in the air, stretches 100 feet wide and weighs 1.4 million pounds. But even more impressive is that it was built in the 1920's on a peak of a sheer 2,300 ft.  cliff overlooking Rio de Janeiro.

Not far from this inspiring statue are the Iguazu Falls -- a natural Wonder of the World.  Made up of 275 waterfalls that stretch across 1.7 miles, to match the amount of water that flows down these falls you would need 2 million people to each pour a quart of water every second.

As we considered what piece of music would be worthy of such incomparable locations we looked to songs that have been composed or used to praise Jesus Christ, for whom the statue was built and who billions believe created all the natural wonders of this world. We wanted to combine the melody of the heartfelt hymn of praise "How Great Thou Art" with one of the most beautiful melodies ever written -- the theme from the movie "The Mission" ("Gabriel's Oboe.").
