Gospel Music: Linda Gibson Johnson - "Buy Me Gold"

Video and lyrics below

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Revelation 3:18-22
18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
21 To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

Buy Me Gold - Lyrics

Verse 1:
John was on the isle of Patmos,
He was talking with the Son of Man.
The Lord said, "John, go and write it down",
So he did with his own hand,

Then the Lord said, "Tell 'em,
Go and tell 'em just what I say,
They'd better be ready to meet me,
When they stand at the judgment day",

Chorus:
He said, "Buy me gold, tried in the fire,
Melt it down, turn the flames a little bit higher,
Don't give me no gold, Oh, that ain't been purified,
Honey, it just ain't good enough, if it ain't been tried",

Verse 2:
People talk about old time religion,
While livin' in a modern way,
They like to reminisce about the saints of old,
How it was back in the day.

They've got all of those stories,
Gathered up in their minds,
Don't they know the Lord's still looking,
For a gold of just that kind,

(Chorus)

Verse 3:
Now you tell me all about your troubles,
Things you been a'going through,
You say you just can't make it,
Well, I'll say a little prayer for you,

You ain't seen nothing like it,
And you've almost lost your mind,
Don't you know its gotta get hotter,
If your ever gonna be refined,

(Chorus)

Sanctified, Blood Bought Music: Linda Gibson Johnson - I Call Him My Everything

1 Chronicles 16:8-11

8 Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done.
9 Sing to him, sing praise to him;
tell of all his wonderful acts.
10 Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
11 Look to the Lord and his strength;
seek his face always.

Hi!

Last fall I published a blog post (10-16-13) about Linda Gibson Johnson and her music ministry.

That blog entry included her song "I Got Saved In The Old Time Way" from her Tear Off The Roof CD.

At the time of that post, I'd been able to find little information about her on-line, but did find an address from a bebo.com entry about her, which included an address for her ministry:

"Where There's Smoke..." Music Ministries
P.O. Box 3029 Sizerock

Pastor Eli Sanders, at a Pentecostal Church, 1946

More recently, I finally sent off a snail-mail letter to that address asking for info about CD's etc and included the web-address for my 10-16-13 post about her, and my e-mail address.

Yesterday I was delighted to find an e-mail from her.

She is indeed very much still alive and ministering!

She wrote that, now and then, she travels and ministers in the same circles as Sharon Brock, in Kentucky and Ohio.

(please refer to my 10-30-13 post about Sister Brock)

Sister Johnson's e-mail indicated that she has three CD's:

Fire, Tear Off the Roof and It Still Takes Old-Time Religion.

  • (Note:  At this time (4-5-14) her first two CD's are on re-order)

Her CD's are available by writing her at the address above and including a check or money order for $12.00.

And if you're able to, I encourage you to include a donation for her ministry as well!

Here's Linda Gibson Johnson and "I Call Him My Everything" from her Tear Off The Roof CD (lyrics below):

I Call Him My Everything - Lyrics

Pharisees called Him a devil,
'Cause He brushed their doctrines aside,
Soldiers called Him the king of the Jews,
And mocked Him as He hung and died,

Pilate called Him an innocent man,
Tried to wash blood off his hands,
The crowd called aloud that day,
Saying crucify that man,

But I call Him Father, Friend,
The Beginning and the End,

I call Him my Constant Companion,
He's been there through the thick and thin,

I call Him when there ain't nobody,
When it's just me and Him,

And I call Him my everything,

Folks 'round about that village,
Called Him a carpenter's son,
Mary called Him her baby boy,
Every evening when the day was done,

The blind man called Him, "Son Of David,
Please have mercy on me",
He made the lame to walk and the dumb to talk,
And He made that blind man see,

(Chorus)

Now, I called Him at an old time altar,
When I fell down on my knees,
And I called Him in the good times,
And the bad times in between,

I called Him to heal my body,
And I called Him to ease my mind,
I called Him in the midnight hour,
And He showed up right on time,

(Chorus)

Awesome Gospel Music: Linda Gibson-Johnson - I Got Saved In The Old Time Way

Psalm 150:1-6 (NIV)

1 Praise the Lord.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel * and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.

Hello!

Years ago I attended a little church that had an amazing music team led by a woman who sang and pounded out up-tempo, and slower, spirit-filled, gospel songs on a piano.

I've always loved that sound and recently I've started finding music on YouTube that is in that vein...and it's been such a Blessing to me!

As mentioned in a recent post (Joseph Larson singing Didn't I walk On The Water), one of them is a gospel/pentecostal, singer/piano player named Linda Gibson Johnson.  For some reason it is VERY hard to find much about her on-line...but I believe she's still living and ministering...though there is little to no other information I can find about her. (* Please see update)

But this woman can really sing and play!! (continued below update)

--------------

(* Update:  Linda Gibson Johnson is very much alive and still ministering!  Please see my 4-5-14 post for more information.

You'll now find updated contact information for her below as well.)

--------------

(Continued)  --  WARNING:  A word to those who like the soft and gentle, synthesizer driven, reverb drenched, "church rock" that has become so popular of late...Linda Gibson-Johnson sounds more like a young, "on fire, sanctified and blood bought" Janis Joplin...and her music may make you want to tap your toes or even *gulp* get up and dance before the Lord! :)

So if you're like me and don't mind a little "Holy Rolling" when you praise and worship God, you'll feel BLESSED by her music

The video I'll post below is from her "live" CD Tear Off The Roof...and she does!

The song is called, "I Got Saved In The Old Time Way"! a

You'll find the lyrics below.

----------------------------------

So without further ado...here's the video...enjoy!

Psalm98 (NIV)
A psalm.
1 Sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvelous things;
his right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him.
2 The Lord has made his salvation known
and revealed his righteousness to the nations.
3 He has remembered his love
and his faithfulness to Israel;
all the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.
4 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth,
burst into jubilant song with music;
5 make music to the Lord with the harp,
with the harp and the sound of singing,
6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—
shout for joy before the Lord, the King.
7 Let the sea resound, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it.
8 Let the rivers clap their hands,
let the mountains sing together for joy;
9 let them sing before the Lord,
for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
and the peoples with equity.

"I Got Saved In The Old Time Way" Lyrics
by Candy Hemphill Christmas and Mike Sykes

Well I went to a Tabernacle,
Just to see what I could see,
Oh, I thought that I would have some fun,
But something happened to me,

Those people they were rejoicin’,
And they were clappin’ their hands,
I felt a hunger rise up in my soul,
I didn’t understand,

Chorus:  And I got saved,
In the old time way,
Oh, From my head down to my feet,
I was changed,
Didn’t care who saw me,
Or what they might say,
I got saved in the old time way,

Oh, The preacher he started preachin’,
About the power in the blood,
They were the sweetest words I’d ever heard,
And I was sorry for all I done,

Oh, I headed for the altar,
Something hit me on the way,
And somewhere in the saw-dust,
I got saved,
(Chorus)
Now I'm shoutin' the victory,
'Cause now I’m sanctified,
I got fire down in my bones,
And I’d like to testify,
Hey, I once was lost,
Now I’m found,
Jesus is the way,
Hey, Glory, Hallelujah,
I got saved
(Chorus)
