Just a Closer Walk With Thee · Mahalia Jackson
"Music-Only" video below commentary.
A few years before my mom and dad passed away, I made a 30 plus minute DVD for them — editing together old family pictures, 78 RPM records, and film clips — from their own baby photos, going forward through their childhood, teen and college years, to their meeting and romance, and up to their wedding and newlywed days just before the arrival of my oldest sister.
God's hand was in that project, because He gave me a lot of great ideas for it — including excellent and meaningful music that fit perfectly under the images and clips — and all I needed to do was select from what I already had on hand.
For example, a little while before making the DVD — I had recorded a niece-in-law's mother playing piano with powerful digital-audio recording software and professional microphones I had — and they agreed that I could use those recordings for future projects. So I used several of those recordings and it added a nice touch to the DVD to have a family member's music on it.
For other music, I went through old 33 1/3 rpm LPs I had collected through the years and found perfect tracks for the video — and at that time I had a great turntable and excellent software that allowed me to convert them to digital files for use in my digital video editing software.

That brings us to today's Gospel Music:
I had an old LP called, Mahalia Jackson Sings The Best Loved Hymns Of Dr. Martin Luther King — which had the song, Just a Closer Walk With Thee on it.

I've heard a lot of artists sing that old hymn, including several versions by her, but there is something wonderful about Mahalia's performance on this particular track.
The feel is breezy and light, and Mahalia sounds like she was in her element during its recording.
This version fit perfectly in my parent's video — and I think it contributed a LOT to making the entire DVD a hit with the family.
You'll find this wonderful Gospel track embedded in a "music-only" video below.
I pray Mahalia's music will Bless you — and that God will pour His Light, Love, Comfort, and Truth into your heart through it!

Just a Closer Walk With Thee - Lyrics
Just a closer walk with Thee
Grant it, Jesus, Lord if you please
Daily walking close with Thee
Oh, let it be, dear Lord, let it be
Hallelujah
I am weak but thou art strong, oh, Lord
Jesus keep me from all wrong
I'll be satisfied as long
As I can walk, please let me walk
Lord close with thee
When my feeble life is o'er, help me, Lord
Time for me won't be no more
I want you to guide me gently o'er
To thy kingdom's shore
Hallelujah
Just a closer walk with Thee
Grant it, Jesus, Lord if you please
Daily walking close with Thee
Oh, let it be, dear Lord, let it be

You Can Begin Your New Life With Jesus Right Now!
✝ Romans 10:9-10
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
---------------------------------
If you've made this decision—believed it in your heart and confessed it with your mouth—let God speak to you by reading the Bible—and seek out fellowship with others who also believe.
Pour out your heart to God in Prayer (simply speaking to Him in reverence)—asking Him to reveal Himself to you and to provide for your needs.
Life in Jesus is the best decision you will ever make.
God Bless You!

My mother used to love Mahalia Jackson, and I think she has a lovely voice too. If I remember rightly the television programs used to end each night with her singing one of her songs.
ReplyDeleteThat's so interesting that they would close with her music — wonder if that would even be allowed today? Thanks for commenting, Brenda.
