People Get Ready · Al Green

Lyrics From People Get Ready

Hi!

Recently, I posted Jonny Lang's I Believe From the 2009 compilation CD Oh! Happy Day to this blog.

https://godsbigshow.blogspot.com/2018/08/jonny-lang-i-believe.html

Another awesome track on that album is a cover of the late Curtis Mayfield's People Get Ready sung  by the Reverend Al Green — along with singer Heather Headley.

Green has been a staple of pop, R & B, and Gospel music for many years — (in 2004, he was inducted into the Gospel Music Association's Gospel Music Hall of Fame) — and I love what he and Headly have done with this song.

They left out a few of the ambiguous lyrics from the original version — but best of all they added two break-down sections of Thanksgiving and Praise to our Heavenly Father.

I find it quite uplifting and moving — and pray that you do too — and that his song Blesses you and fills your heart with God's Comfort, Peace, and Love!

People Get Ready Lyrics

People get ready
There's a train a comin'
You don't need no ticket
You just thank the LORD!

People get ready
There's a train a comin'
You don't need no ticket
You just get on board

All you need is faith
To hear the diesels humming
You don't need no bags
You just thank the LORD!

People get ready
There's a train to Jordan
Picking up passengers — from coast to coast

All you need is faith
Open the doors and board 'em
Don't need no ticket
You just get on board!

Break-down:

Thank you LORD!! < repeats

People get ready
There's a train a comin'
And you don't need a ticket
You can just get on board

But you gotta have a pity on those — who chances grow thinner
There's Life for all — on the Kingdom's throne

People get ready
There's a train to Jordan
Picking up passengers (Oh!  The Master's conin'!)— from coast to coast

Faith is the KEY
To hear the diesels humming
You don't need no ticket
You just thank the LORD!

Repeats with variations

Romans 4:1-8

Jesus is LORD!

Romans 10:9-10

9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

  1. Hi Jephyr, I love gospel music, and I truly believe the time is short. I am reminded constantly when I hear of see written the word 'faith', that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God - and not by the lying word that the enemy tries to place in our carnal minds that would questions the Word of God spoken to us.
God bless you and yours Jephyr.

    1. Me too, Brenda! I used to listen to pop, rock, and blues — but now most of it seems so empty to me — like a "noisy gong or clanging cymbal." The scripture you shared about "faith coming from hearing the Word" is so important. I had a friend pass away last year at just 43. He had so filled his mind with things of the world (movies, TV, music, computer games, graphic novels, etc) that he'd begun to scoff when we talked about God — and it was obvious he'd completely bought into the "wisdom" of this world — and had even begun to hint that he believed that Jesus was just one of many ways to God. I had a chance to speak to him — and gave a strong warning to him. He seemed to scoff about it — but later his girlfriend told me that she'd seen him praying (something I know he hadn't done in a long time). So I pray he was ready. Jesus is the only answer and I LOVE hearing great Gospel music that speaks of Him!
